| Holy Cross Lutheran Church is a worshiping community of approximately 250
families located in the far northwest Chicago suburb of Cary, Illinois. A long-time presence in Cary, Holy Cross will celebrate 100 years of God’s blessings
with an anniversary celebration in 2011.
Holy Cross stands in the Lutheran heritage dating to the sixteenth century and
the church reforms introduced by Martin Luther. The central defining teaching of
the Lutheran Church is that God’s people, disconnected from Him by sin, are
re-connected to Him by his grace solely through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
This central teaching is supported by three Reformation understandings: grace
alone (this is all God’s doing), faith alone (faith alone saves, though faith is
never alone), and Scripture alone (God’s revealed word is the final rule and
norm for Christian teaching).
Holy Cross is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
(LCMS). The St. Louis-based LCMS, founded in Chicago in 1847, has 2.5 million
baptized members in 6,150 congregation served by more than 9,000 pastors.
The denomination, which ranks as one of the ten largest Christian denominations
in the United Sates, owns and operates KFUO radio stations, two seminaries, ten
universities (including Concordia University Chicago), and the largest Protestant
parochial school system in America. The LCMS is active on six continents and
supports more than 650 missionaries. More information about the Lutheran
Church – Missouri Synod is available on its website at www.lcms.org .
