Our Ministries

ONEighty youth ministry ONEighty Student Ministries
ONEighty Student Ministries is a new Youth Ministry serving the northwest suburbs.  Our mission is to live out our faith in Christ and to grow His kingdom.  We spread God’s Word through:

Fuse
Fuse is our weekly Sunday night service. We combine contemporary worship music, video illustrations, messages all in an atmosphere specifically designed with jr. and sr. high students in mind. If you have ever said, “I’m bored” at church, then Fuse is definitely for you!

Bible Studies
Each week we offer two separate opportunities to go deeper into the Word of God. In the Sunday morning study, the youth go over a passage of the Bible and discuss it in an interactive way. The Tuesday night study, known as the Discipleship Group, has curriculum written by the Fuse staff and revolves around the topics discussed on Sunday nights.

Events
Throughout the year, ONEighty offers a variety of events. Some events are offered free of charge, while others are offered at cost or lower. There is never a “bait and switch.” These events are strictly fun events that the youth go on, and everyone is encouraged to bring friends.

For a calendar of events and other information, check out our Student Ministry Website. external link

Confirmation is also available for youth in 7th grade and above.

Kids For ChristKids for Christ
Kids For Christ (KFC) is a ministry for all children in grades 3–6. KFC meets the last Sunday of each month for Jesus Time, games, fellowship and snacks. Other KFC events and outings occur from time to time, as announced before regular worship services. Parents are always welcome to attend Kids For Christ along with their children. Call the Holy Cross church office for an update on our current meeting/event schedule.
Small Groups
One opportunity to be involved in caring ministry at Holy Cross is through the ChristCare Small Group Ministry. Members of ChristCare small groups make a commitment to meet weekly or twice a month for 60–90 minutes to live out the great command of Jesus—to love one another—and the great commission—to make disciples of all nations. ChristCare Small Group members are modern day disciples, ordinary people, and followers of Jesus Christ.

ChristCare groups are small groups of 5-12 people that meet regularly to seek to know God better through Bible study, prayer, and living out Christ’s love for each other. ChristCare groups spend their time in four main activity areas:

  • Community building and care. Holy Cross members and friends get to know one another and develop caring friendships in small groups. ChristCare gatherings allow sharing of life experiences and the joys and sorrows of everyday living. ChristCare gatherings are a time for conversation, laughter, tears, and encouragement.

  • Biblical Equipping. Equipping is an interesting word. It means making something fit for the role for which it is designed and intended. Through Biblical Equipping, the ChristCare member is transformed by the Holy Spirit and made fit for life as a follower of Jesus Christ. ChristCare small groups are places where spiritual growth occurs. Here is where ChristCare members study and discuss God’s Word among friends and then work to apply it to everyday life.

  • Prayer and Worship. The 12 people closest to Jesus asked him, “Lord teach us to pray…” (Luke 11:1). ChristCare small groups worship and praise God through prayer by bringing cares and concerns before Him.

  • Missional Service. ChristCare small groups reach out with Christ’s love to meet the needs of people outside the group providing care, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, socially or intellectually. ChristCare groups serve Jesus by meeting the needs of those around them just as Jesus loved and cared for those around him.

Deaf Ministry
Deaf ministry is an important part of our congregation. We offer interpreted services in both Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. We are blessed that all of our interpreters are also professional signers.

Music at Holy Cross
"Music is a fair and lovely gift of God which has often wakened and moved me to the joy of preaching... next to theology, I give music the highest honor." - Martin Luther

The aim and final purpose of all music should be the Glory of God and the refreshment of the spirit” - J.S. Bach

Music in worship is a natural response to God’s redeeming love in Christ Jesus. Worship invites His peoples’ participation through listening, speaking, singing, and praying. Our worship includes congregational singing, organ music, and contributions from choirs and vocal and instrumental soloists—all to the glory of God!

Our music ministry includes:
  • 1964 Moller pipe organ
  • Adult Choir
  • Two-octave Handbell Choir
  • Children’s music ensembles

Holy Cross’ music ministry is under the leadership of Laura Schmuldt, Music Ministry Director.

Foreign and Domestic Mission Work
Holy Cross members volunteer in both domestic and foreign mission work. They have been involved in local Habitat for Humanity home building, New Orleans hurricane cleanup, annual youth mission trips, and mission trips to Central America and Africa.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)
LWML is open to all women and meets the second Thursday every other month – January, March, May, July, September, and November at 7:30pm. LWML is responsible for Baptism banners as well as the annual Christmas Mission Tree. The biggest annual event is LWML Sunday, scheduled for the first Sunday in October.
